Arusha

Our first night was spent at the Lake Duluti Serena Hotel.
Built in 1989, the main building was fashioned after an English manor estate.

The rooms were lovely thatched cottages sitting in scenic gardens.

The next morning we met our guide and began the drive through Arusha to Lake Manyara.
Arusha has a population of some 2 million people.  Here are sights along the way.

Entering the "retail" area.

Most of the houses did not have running water.

Did not get a picture,
but it was common to see people washing clothes in buckets of water.

This a local public bus.

School children.
The uniform colors are specific to one's grade level.
These are middle school students.
One third of Tanzanians are Muslim - hence the head wear.

Seeing children tend to livestock was very common.

Local farmers market.

Local taxi rank.

Motorcycles are also used as taxis.
We often saw three and sometimes four people on board one cycle.

Seems the ladies are selling some fruit.
